You stay in the same neighbourhood with Tony, your best friend and classmate. Before the close of school, your teachers announce you have a quiz the next day. You decide to read when you get home and properly prepare for the quiz.
Unlike you, Tony plays games with the other kids in the neighbourhood. The next day after taking the quiz, Tony failed, but you got all the answers correctly.
You feel happy but also sad. Happy because of your success but sad because you knew that if Tony had read his books, he would have passed the quiz like you.
You see, it feels good to play games with friends or watch Squidward yell at Spongebob in the Bikini Bottom, however, we can’t always do the things we like and ignore important tasks.
This is why we always need to make plans to achieve our goals for the day. And here is how to do it:
Write down a list of what you want to do
Scheduling your day begins in the morning. Once you wake up, write down a list of things you would like to achieve for the day.
These activities can be as simple as making your bed or putting your toys away. It could also be doing your assignment and helping your parents with their tasks.
Identify your priorities
After making a list of all the things you would like to do in a day, arrange them according to their order of importance. Some tasks need your immediate attention, like bathing, getting dressed for school and eating breakfast.
Likewise, there are other tasks that you can do later on, like practising card games and going for a walk. One way to identify your priorities is to separate your tasks into three classes namely: personal tasks (e.g. practising the piano), academic tasks (e.g. reading a book), and house chores (e.g. tending to the garden).
Do related tasks together
Doing related tasks at the same time will help you create time for other activities that need your attention. Some functions that you can do at the same time include cleaning your room, putting away your toys and folding your laundry.
Plan activities around your interests
It is easier to keep up with tasks that are related to your interests. You could have an interest in art, technology, or even gardening.
If you are interested in art, you could get a colouring book and practice, or make paintings. Did you know that Mike Winkelmann (also known as Beeple) practised how to paint every day for 13 years?
Did you know he later sold all 5000 paintings for $69 million? It was easy for Beeple to do this because he had an interest in art.
So find what you love and schedule it as a daily task. Who knows you might be the next Beeple?
Don't forget to take a break
After you’ve done all on your list, you would have earned the right to take a break. At this point, you can curl up on your favourite couch in front of the TV and tune in to your favourite show.
