A brief history…

I was a teenager when I stumbled on an educational programme on AIT. In that programme, students of a school in South Africa were being taught Chemistry and other science subjects. I loved watching the academic lives of the students from the class to the lab. I enjoyed learning this way. And this ignited my passion for online learning. 

However, this was not my first experience with the digital world. I first encountered the computer when I was much younger. By the age of 5, my dad had already exposed me to the computer. Before I was 10 years old, I had learnt how to use Lotus 1-2-3, Windows 98, and a palmtop. By the time I got to the university at 16, I knew basic programming languages.

This exposure to digital skills opened my mind up to critical thinking and problem-solving. I learnt how to study independently; to source information outside my textbooks. As a matter of fact, my foundational knowledge about bitcoin, blockchain and the crypto industry came from watching videos upon videos on YouTube for 12 hours. 

It is this exposure that has inspired me to commit to online education for children through DABA Kids. 

What is DABA Kids?

DABA Kids is a platform that seeks to catch kids young and inculcate them with skills and values for the future. It is an alternative school devoid of the trappings of conventional education. 

DABA Kids aims to cultivate the curious and knowledge-hungry minds of African children so that they can compete favourably with their peers from other continents. This online education platform exposes children to the dynamics of the digital space, teaching them to take advantage of the numerous opportunities in the space. We are poised to give children a new kind of education where they can learn, solve problems, create wealth, and have fun while doing so.

With this school, children between 4 and 16 years old now have the chance to play in the online space and gain digital skills. DABA Kids will produce that 12-year-old graphic designer, that 10-year-old drone pilot capturing the fascinating architecture of her city, that child that owns digital estates and sells NFTs worth millions of dollars. DABA Kids will groom the next Musks and Zuckerbergs.
